The Mechanics and Related Class and Craft

The National mediation Board (NMB) is the organization within
the federal government that has determined which employee groups
constitutes the class and craft of the mechanics and related
group. To receive an NMB election for union representation the
employees group involved must submit a required number of authorization
cards to the NMB. If the group is not currently represented
35% is the required of the total number employed in your class
and craft. If a union represents the group, 50% plus 1 authorizations
are required.
The Class and Craft of the Mechanics and Related consist of
the following
- Mechanics (Aircraft, Auto shop, Shop mechanics, Machinists,
and Building maintenance)
- Aircraft Inspectors
- Shop Inspectors
- Flight Simulator Technicians
- Ground Communication Technicians
- Computer Terminal Technicians
- Metrologists
- Apprentice Mechanics
- Mechanics helpers
- Utility Employees
- Cabin Service
- Fuelers
- Seamers
The authorization card is your personal indication to the
National Mediation Board that you want a union election. The
card is confidential and only AMFA and the NMB will have access
to it. When the NMB determines the required number employees
have requested an election, they will conduct a secret ballot
election via the U.S. Postal Service the ballots will be mailed
to your house. Today you have the opportunity to choose to
be represented by professionals in a craft union that promotes
democracy and our profession. Get involved and control your
