AMFA Local Autonomy
Jim Seitz - Technician UAL INDAF

Local Autonomy is the difference and the strength of AMFA. The individuals who drafted the AMFA Constitution wanted to guarantee the union would always be run by the membership.

Article I section 9 of the Constitution is the "Member s' Bill of Rights", in this section the Constitution guarantees that the association will always be democratically run by the membership of AMFA. Regardless of how large AMFA becomes, the locals and the membership will control the union.

Each local shall establish by laws to manage their locals in the manner the local membership determines would be best. The locals can budget their monies the best way they believe would benefit the membership. Each local is independent and autonomous and shall operate within the guidelines of the "Constitution".

The locals in AMFA have complete control of their local operation as long as those procedures are in agreement with the AMFA Constitution. Each airline in the local will have airline representatives for their airline. These groups will work together to protect the rights of the membership and to promote the interests of the membership of the local.

There are no district offices to interfere; all business is conducted at the local level. All contractual grievance issues are settled within the local with professional legal aid when requested.

Each local shall establish an Executive Council that shall consist of:

1) PRESIDENT
2) VICE-PRESIDENT
3) SECRETARY
4) TREASURER
5) SAFETY AND STANDARDS CHAIRMAN

In no event shall the Executive Council exceed more than nine persons or less than five persons. The Executive Council of each of local shall execute and cause to be filed all financial and other reports, and make them available to the membership of their local. This Council shall make arrangements to keep the membership informed of all latest developments within the association.

Local Autonomy keeps the power of the Association in the locals. This union was designed to work for the membership from the bottom up. The local office serves the local members. The LEC and Airline Representatives, along with the local membership work together to protect and promote craft unionism.

Knowledge, Skill and Integrity is the motto of AMFA; with these values we will serve our membership and secure the future of our profession.
