AMFA National Northwest Airlines Strike Updates
DAY 6 of NWA Mechanics Strike
THE NUMBERS OF OUR MEMBERS WHO HAVE CROSSED THE PICKET LINE IS ZERO
It is likely that NWA will send a letter or make a call to our homes informing us that if we do not return to work we will be fired. Please do not buy into this ploy. They want us to start crossing our own picket lines, which would completetly compromise our strike effort. Our unity is our strenght.
Reports from out daily system wide conference call today indicated that every station is actively picketing and that we continue to receive support from passengers and other workers.
If you have questions or concerns please contact your local for assistance first. If you need further assistance please call AMFA Administration your Local will have the number.
Please stay informed by visiting the national website and calling the hotline regularly.

We have reports of several flight attendants and ESE’s refusing to cross our pickets and not reporting to work. We appreciate the support of our fellow workers and pledge to them that we will not return to work without them.
We also have reports of scab mechanics attempting to pish aircraft that were still chocked and also leaving FOD in the engine inlet area which confirms our belieff that these people are inexperienced and
not properly trained.

Northwest again is reporting that flight operations were normal today. Our sources indicate that NWA had to cancel 33 flights today out of DTW and has already cancelled 15 DTW flights for tomorrow. The MEL count is roughly 650. If this trend continues NWA will have a difficult time misleading the press for much longer. We will be coordinating the collection of flight operations data and will be making daily reports.

Our talking points to the press are:
- We are striking over jobs - not money. AMFA offered NWA, using their numbers, well over $100 million in concessions. Clearly we are willing to help, but we must have a future at NWA to reach an agreement.
At the signing of our last contract we had 9750 jobs. In the past 4 years NWA has eliminated over 5000 jobs and demanded that we agree to the elimination of another 2000 jobs leaving a mere 2750 jobs in 4 short years. Further, the remaining jobs would be eliminated through attrition resulting in the loss of all jobs and busting our union.
- NWA flight operations are under pressure and NWA is attempting to paint a much better picture than exists.
Talking points to our fellow workers:
- Our fight is not with other NWA employees. Our fight is with NWA and corporate greed. We appreciate their support and hope that their negotiations go better than ours. Please do not insult them, they may have a change of heart and join us.
