FAQ for Utility Personnel at United Airlines
AMFA2000
These are some of the commonly asked questions from the Utility
Classification at United Airlines. We hope this will help
to educate the membership on the advantages of being represented
by AMFA, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association. If
you have any other questions please visit our website at AMFA2000.org
and we will answer any questions you might have.
In AMFA we extend the same respect and professionalism to
the Utility Classification as we do all of our members. Every
individual is guaranteed legal counsel and equal representation.
AMFA refers to the utility personnel as Aircraft Maintenance
Support Employees AMSE.
Q. Why should I sign an AMFA card today?
A. By joining AMFA you are uniting with the technicians in a
democratic union of professionals much like the pilots association.
You as an AMSE will gain representation for your classification
and the ability to join contract negotiations. You will join
the technicians and their clout to achieve more in negotiations.
Do you remember the mid-term wage agreement? The mechanics and
related turned down the IAM endorsed first offer and we achieved
more in the next offer, not only for our group but also for
everyone else in the IAM. How much more can we achieve by separating
from the IAM? Much more.
Q. What has AMFA done for the Aircraft Maintenance
Support Employees?
A. AMFA has given the AMSE the ability to vote for their own
representatives during contract negotiations. The 2500 utility
employees at UAL have no elected representatives, ask yourself
why? The AMSE at NWA have elected their own representation and
can observe negotiations daily. AMFA has increased the number
of stations that AMSE work is performed by adding 9 more stations
for cleaner work. AMFA proposes $20.16 per hour and $55.00 pension
and an 85-point system. AMFA has done a lot to improve the standard
of living for its AMSE personnel. AMFA proposes a cost of living
allowance at stations with high costs of living such as SFO,
LAX, IAD, JFK and LGA to name a few. This union works to improve
your standard of living.
Q. Who will negotiate the contract for the
Utility Employees (AMSE)?
A. With AMFA representation, the Utility Employees will elect
their own representatives for contract negotiations. The utility
employees will submit and vote on their own contract proposals;
this is something they have never done with the IAM. The utility
employees will have their own representatives for their classification.
The AMSE will negotiate the contract along with the Technicians.
ALL AMFA represented employees will have the right to sit
in and observe contract negotiations on a daily basis.
