What is AMFA About?
AMFA2000
One answer to that question can be found in the AMFA constitution,
specifically the Preamble. We will quote the more basic and
outstanding features of the Preamble.
It states in part... "The aim of the AMFA is to promote and
protect the interest of our membership, to elevate the moral,
intellectual and social conditions of ALL Aircraft Technicians
and Airline support personnel in the Aviation Community."
"...We pledge ourselves to uphold the basic doctrines of trade
unionism, to recognize individual seniority rights of members,
and to protect and elevate our profession through a strong unification
of Aircraft Technicians and Airline Support personnel within
an independent, skilled craft union"
Craft based unionism. That's all AMFA will focus on. OUR Craft
and Class as defined by the National Mediation Board. No common
ground givebacks and no robbing Peter to pay Paul. ANY sacrifices
that YOU make will be for YOUR benefit and not the unrelated
work groups that are ALL trying to get center stage with the
IAM. Separate districts are nice, but why have "AMFA lite" when
you can have a truly separate and democratic organization.
The idea of a skilled craft based union for Mechanics and Related
has been around for quite some time. Currently the Mechanics
and Related at Alaska, ACA, Mesaba and Northwest Airlines are
giving new life and new meaning to the idea.
Simply put AMFA is about YOU belonging to a union that has members,
ALL sharing a common base interest.
